Educational programs at the Thunderbird Lodge have been developed for students from Kindergarten through grade 12. Currently, field trips are offered during the month of May to students as part of the Lodge's efforts to be available as an educational resource and example of living history.
Contact Thunderbird Lodge Preservation Society at 775-832-8750 or e-mail askus@thunderbirdlodge.org if you have any questions regarding educational programs, or would like to arrange a classroom field trip.
On-Site Protocol
Please help us preserve and protect this pristine historic site by respecting the on-site protocol.
- The Thunderbird Lodge can accommodate up to 45 students at a time with up to 5 adults.
- We ask that students be in the same school or age range.
- It is important that the bus arrives on time; the education staff is made up of volunteers who rely on your prompt arrival. Please call us if you are running late at 775-832-8754 or 775-832-8753.
- Please divide your students into groups of 12-15 students upon arrival.
- A guide will meet you at the parking lot. All visitors must remain with a guide throughout the visit. For safety reasons, pre-scholars are not allowed.
- Parked vehicles must be left unlocked with the keys in the ignition in case of emergency.
- Be safe. Prepare students in advance for a lot of walking over old stone walkways, up and down stairs, and through a 600-foot tunnel. If your group includes any children with special needs, please advise us in advance.
- Restroom facilities and water are very limited, so please help us conserve our resources.
- The Thunderbird Lodge is an historic site, so there is a "no touch" policy in force.
